Cork City manager John Caulfield has admitted he won’t get carried away with his sides recent run of results despite his side winning thirteen of their opening fourteen games of the new season.

The Leesiders are now fourteen games unbeaten and have stretched their lead at the top of the SSE Airtricity League to thirteen points following Friday night’s comprehensive victory over Drogheda United at Turners Cross.

And speaking to reporters shortly after that 5-0 win against the Louth club, Caulfield, who refuses to look at the league table and the results of his rivals, has called on his side to remain level headed.

“All this lead does is give you an extra cushion and that if you drop a few points, you’re still at the top but I don’t think we’ll get carried away, I certainly won’t,” insisted Caulfield.

“We are a very level headed group. There’s a lot of pressure in Cork, a lot of media coverage, but I think we have guys with common sense who keep their feet on the ground and know they need to prove themselves.

“I don’t think from my point of view that they will get carried away, I don’t see that being an issue.

“The most important thing that I keep saying is their will be times in the year when results will go against you.

“Even last week there was a massive outcry when we dropped points but its incredible how well we’ve done and how well we’ve started.

“The lads keep focusing, when you go through a rocky patch in your next game, you need to bounce back.

“After the games within maybe five or ten minutes you hear scores but ultimately if we win I know where we are, I don’t even look at the table.

“The most important thing is we are in control of our own games and our own team.

“I don’t even know what the gap is whatever it is it’s immaterial at this time.

“Twice last year we were ten points behind and the league was down to one point in October. The first year we took over we were eight points behind with seven games to go and going into the last game of the season we were ahead.

“Even as brilliant a team as everyone said Dundalk were and what they’ve achieved even twice we came back into it, it’s just really keeping focused.

“It’s immaterial what anyone else does we have to keep going week to week and if we keep wining then I know we’ll be in a good position.”
