Athlone Town made their first big signing of the off-season by appointing Aaron Callaghan as their new first-team manager.

The 51-year-old takes over from Roddy Collins, who becomes the club's new General Manager, and will be assisted by Terry Butler.

A vastly experienced coach, Callaghan has managed in the SSE Airtricity League with Longford Town, Bohemians, UCD, and a short spell with Athlone in 2004.

Callaghan also enjoyed spells in the NIFL Premiership with Carrick Rangers and in the college game with NUI Maynooth.

He will immediately set out to shape a squad for the 2018 season and his contacts in the game should prove useful in that pursuit.
