Ryan Brennan scored the only goal as St. Patrick’s Athletic beat a Waterford side who had gone down to nine men to make it three home wins on the bounce and boss Liam Buckley was understandably pleased with his side’s work on Monday night.
Brennan was one of several Saints players who stood out on the night alongside both Jamie Lennon and Darragh Markey, in particular and Buckley was quick to sing the praises of his young holding midfielder after the match.
“Ryan has been doing well for us in fairness,” Buckley told SSE Airtricity League reporter Conor Clancy after the game. “He works hard and puts in a good shift.
“He’s an offensive midfielder and he’s deceptively good in the air as well. He’ll score his fair share for us and he has contributed very well so far.”
The Saints boss went on to cite Lennon’s inclusion as one of the reasons for seeing Brennan more freed up on the night and able to join in more regularly around the Waterford box.
“Jamie is a fantastic player,” he added. “His range of passing is terrific.
“He is a top player and he will be able to make a career in the game for sure. He’s developing too and he’s picking up on those things that are required to play in that position [at the base of a midfield three] and he has done great.”
Next up for Pat’s is a trip to face Sligo Rovers on Saturday.
