Man of the match Keith Buckley struck just before the break to inflict a third defeat in a row on 10-man St. Patrick's Athletic as Bohemians tightened their grip on third place in front of yet another sell out crowd at Dalymount Park.
Speaking after his game winning exploits, the Bohs midfielder was understandably pleased after a tough shift at the office.
“I think overall it was a very good performance, a real team performance. They obviously started both halfs with decent possession but we contained them really well I thought.
"We, as a team, moved side to side well and kept them at bay, but when we did get possession we looked to spring forward quickly and as a unit. And when we did that we had the better of the chances I feel.
"(Keith) Wardy hit the post with a free, Dinny Corcoran had one cleared off the line and Kev (Devaney) got in down the left a few times, so we did looked dangerous and probably could have got another.”
The work rate the whole side put in for the full 90 minutes was evident as they didn’t give their illustrious opponents much of a sniff in the way of a goal threat, and the talented 26 year old went on to give a little sneak behind the curtain, saying:
“It was something we have worked on, we have a great team ethic and work rate throughout our whole squad so we were delighted to see it come together like that. I also think we did well keeping our discipline, not giving many free kicks away, because we know they have some great technicians in their side, (Chris) Forrester, Brandon Miele and (Rhys) McCabe so were particularly happy on that side too.”
And it was from this disciplined performance out of possession that really told as Bohs took the lead. Bohs pressed as a unit, quickly winning the ball back in the Pats half and the ever modest “Bucko” showed some lightening quick thinking to make sure he slotted home.
“Like I said, we moved forward quickly as a team and I backed up the play as we won the ball. Their keeper saved well from the one on one and luckily it fell to me on the edge of the box.
"But as it dropped I spotted one of their defenders, David Webster I think, on the line I thought take a bit of the power off it and just lift it.
"Luckily it went in because he’s one of the tallest players on the pitch and think it went in in the only place he couldn’t get to, right under the bar, so chuffed it went in.”
