Limerick’s interim manager Willie Boland was pleased with his side's performance against Derry City last night as they managed to come away from Buncrana with a vital point.
“I thought some of the work out there from some of the boys was outstanding,” Boland said. “Derry (City) tonight, especially in the second half, was at it, they were very busy very quick and they looked fired up for the game and we had to deal with the pressure.
“I think some of the boy's performance were excellent, Duggie (Shane Duggan) scored an excellent goal, but also his entire performance in the middle of the park, breaking things up, was excellent.
“The two centre-halves had to defend well for the night and they did very well at it.
“You know, Tony (Whitehead) with a magnificent block at one stage and Robbie’s (Williams) performance was superb as well,” Boland explained.
“The whole lot, the whole team had to put a shift in, and they did so, and you know we did create chances as well.
“We had two or three good efforts in the first half and we had a couple of good efforts in the second half also, but the Goalkeeper made a good save from Roddy (Rodrigo Tosi) and Clarkey (Dean Clarke) almost scored as well, and Chris (Mulhall) almost scored from a short back pass.
“So, you know, looking at the possession side of things probably Derry had a little bit more than we had but we probably created more chances than what they had in the game,” Boland said.
Boland was disappointed to lose the lead but was happy his side still got what they wanted in a positive result.
“I think looking before hand, I think we wanted to come up here and get a positive result,” Boland added. “But if we would’ve won the gap it would have given us a gap and taken us four points away from them, but it keeps us ahead of them.
“Coming up here , you know, to get a result up here is good, it keeps the boys unbeaten in the league in the last four games, so there is a positive void around at the moment and the boys are really putting shifts in and putting some decent performances in, so it stands up in good stead going into the game at Shamrock Rovers and we look forward to that game.”
