2025 MFD preview - Cobh Ramblers
After a brilliant 2023, Cobh Ramblers went through a mixed year last season but as the off-season progresses ahead of the new SSE Airtricity Men’s First Division season, noticeable changes have been seen at St. Colman’s Park.
These are changes that have seen some suggest the Rams could pose a credible threat to the title race and the hunt for promotion given the signings that they have made under new Manager Mick McDermott.
Not one, but two Shane Griffins have come in the door from Waterford and SSE Airtricity Men’s Premier Division Champions Shelbourne and both bring serious quality to the core of the squad.
There has also been a raft of new signings from neighbours Cork City as the likes of Cian Coleman, Barry Coffey, Cian Barbary, Jonas Hakkinen and Jack Doherty have come in to aid their push.
Doherty has picked up an injury in pre-season but Coffey’s signing should bring a real threat to their attacking prowess.
Among the departures, Ramblers have parted ways with players such as Pierce Phillips, Jack Larkin, Dean Larkin, Justin Eguaibor, David Eguaibor and Matthew McKevitt so it will be a new look squad.
However, some familiar faces such as Michael McCarthy, Darragh Burke, Tiernan O’Brien and James O’Leary have been retained so it will be an interesting mix for the Rams who have set out their intent on a push for promotion in 2025.
