A look at the reigning Women's All-Island Cup Champions

Lifting the Avenir Sports All-Island Cup last term was a big boost for Galway - their first piece of silverware. The task now is jumping up a few places in the League table to join the title race.

If they are to achieve that then allowing Rola Olusola to unleash her dribbling skills, Jenna Slattery to shoot on sight and finding a consistent goal scorer will be crucial.

The good news, at least in the striking department, is that Abbie Callanan showed glimpses last year that she could be the solution to their problem. Certainly when inside the opposition penalty area, she knows how to finish.

Veteran Lynsey McKey will once again be vital to their game-plan and former Ireland WNT star Julie-Ann Russell should contribute more with a good run of games behind her. Having two players of their experience is huge.

In defence, Eve Dossen was terrific and she will only improve with the more minutes that she racks up. Yet the real star for The Tribeswomen was Kate Thompson, who can dominate from any position on the pitch and has, understandably, caught the eye of other teams.

Galway will not be happy with another fourth-place finish. They want to be in the mix at the very top. In order to do that, Phil Trill must inspire his players to win more games against the other title contenders. A couple of big scalps will put them right in the middle of it all.

This is a relatively young team moving in the right direction.
