The biggest cup competition in the country took centre stage in the league of Ireland this weekend, but you can be forgiven if you missed it. The headlines were given to the start of the English premier league as that got underway on Friday night; which had the fans around

There is only two all Premier Division ties as Pat's drew Galway United and Limerick drew Finn Harps.

My week’s holiday meant I missed 2 Bray Wanderers games. I was away Saturday to Saturday and sandwiched in between were the visit of Cork to Bray on the Sunday and a trip to Richmond Park to face St Patrick’s Athletic on the Friday.

Holders Cork City were drawn against Premier Division side Bray Wanderers while last years finalists Dundalk also pulled Premier Division opposition in Derry City.

Longford Town have announced that they have drawn their rivals Athlone Town in the FAI Cup.

The SSE Airtricity League season will start earlier than normal in 2017 on the 24th February.
It means that the season will start a week earlier than planned and also that the mid-season break will be one week shorter going from June 3rd – 15th 2017.
