UCD AFC are delighted to announce the appointment of Andy Myler as our new First Team Manager ahead of the new season.
Andy has a wealth of experience in the League of Ireland, both as a player, and as a manager, managing Shamrock Rovers to A League success in 2009 and an U20 title in 2010 before moving to the 1st team coaching staff with Michael O’Neill, where they qualified for the UEFA Europa League Group Stages. In recent years he has also helped our Colleges and Universities League sides.
As a player he was a prolific goal scorer, scoring 131 league goals during his illustrious career. He joined UCD as a player in 1994 before leaving in 1997, playing a crucial part in our First Division title winning campaign in 1994/5.
Ian Ryan has also signed a new contract as assistant manager ahead of the new season. Ian has played a major role in our recent success, with our First Division title winning team in 2018, and the development and coaching of players for both our League of Ireland and Colleges and University League squads, and with Ian remaining on board for next season it is a major boost as we look to continue to rebuilding of our squad of some of Ireland’s most exciting young players.
Speaking on the appointment, Director of Football, Diarmuid McNally is looking forward to having Andy in place ahead of next season, and is hoping he will be able to lead the club to more success.
“For the club it’s a great appointment. Andy has been working with us in the background over the last few years, knows exactly how we operate, and of course his success as both a player and on the management side speaks for itself. He had great success working with Michael O’Neill at Shamrock Rovers when they made the Europa League group stages, and I’m confident he will be a huge success here.”
“I’m also delighted that Ian Ryan has agreed to stay on as our assistant manager for next season. He knows the club inside out, has played a huge role in our recent success, and will play a vital role as we continue our rebuilding and look to develop our next squad of exciting young players.”
