FAI Pitch Consultant Richard Hayden (Hayden Turfcare) will visit each ground in the coming days before the overall winner is announced.

The FAI’s Head of Facility Development Walter Holleran said the shortlist shows the quality of pitches in the Premier and First Divisions over the 2019 season.

“I wish to congratulate all three venues and their staff for the work on preparing and maintaining their venues to a very good standard.

“The standard of pitches within the SSE Airtricity Leagues are constantly improving and the shortlisted group are very much to the top in terms of pitch quality.

“The FAI will continue to host the Natural Turf Maintenance training days to ensure all clubs have the latest educational and market knowledge to bring their respective pitches to the next level.”

The 2019 winners will take the crown from Longford Town, after the First Division club won the honour in 2018.

  1. Best experience, e15 and live football on Friday nights watching Shamrock Rovers, also helps that they play such sexy football, the new stand adds greatly to Tallaght arena, will be a class arena when final stand is completed. The league can thrive with more exposure and promotions to public like how Leinster rugby went from 3000 in Donnybrook to 17000 every week in RDS

    1. No surprise here, Matt always has the pitch in great shape. Drogheda Utd play ALL their home matches on the pitch, – from U13 to Senior.

      1. Agree 100% Jim, best groundsman in the league considering the amount of football played on it it’s a no brainer

  2. Such a load of rubbish, “sligo showgrounds” is one gof the best pitches in the league of irl. Great grounds too.

  3. all the clubs mentioned obviously have decent pitches, time for the rest of the league teams to step up and improve their standards.

  4. Tallaght Stadiums pitch is by far the best in the country. The head groundsman has dedicated his time, energy and knowledge to ensure that for every match played there, the pitch is of the highest standard ALWAYS. Irelands Ladies and Irelands underage internationals have enjoyed playing on the most consistent quality surface throughout the whole year. KUDOS to Dennis and his dedicated team, the nomination itself is confirmation that you are the best in the country.
