UCD parted company with Collie O’Neill during the week and now the Dublin side are on the lookout for a new manager.
With the club in trouble at the bottom of the League (and having lost most of their top players) they seem set for the First Division next season.
There are plenty of managers that may fit the bill for the role but Shane Keegan is our stand out candidate for this particular job for a few reasons.
For the UCD job the new manager will need to work with absolutely no budget and previously Keegan worked wonders with Wexford Youths (now Wexford FC) in the First Division on a nonexistent budget and gained promotion with the club.
The football that UCD play is regarded as a fast paced attractive style and through his tenures with Wexford & Galway, both clubs and teams were recognised as playing a great brand of football.
Even though his Galway United side were relegated they were praised by the media for their style of play.
The stand out reason for Keegan to be the top contender is that he has dealt with players within college and catered for the upset mid season of exams etc as most of his players at Wexford were in Carlow IT so his experience will really stand out in this role.
The Laois native also has a Pro Licence so if he did achieve promotion there would be no issues managing in the Premier Division.
