Kenny Browne re-signs with Waterford for 2019

Waterford FC is delighted to confirm the re-signing of defender Kenny Browne.

The centre-half has put pen to paper to stay with the Blues for the 2019 season. Browne returned to the club from Cork City at the beginning of the 2017 season for a third spell at the RSC following stints with St Patrick’s Athletic and Sporting Fingal.

The defender made 27 appearances last season as the Blues secured 4th position in the Premier Division table in the club’s first season back in the top flight and a Europa League spot for 2019.

Speaking to WaterfordFC.ie, Browne said:

“I’m really happy to sign back. Pre-season is all about fitness and getting ready for the season, it’s never easy, but that’s what I’m working on at the moment. Training has been good, there’s some really good, young, quick lads after joining the squad and they’re hungry to make a mark.

“It’s a much changed squad to last season so it’s tough to put a prediction on the season but we’re here to compete, definitely. Dundalk and a few others will be very strong but we’ll be looking to compete like we have done and build on the last few seasons.

“We do have lots of young lads but there’s experience in myself, Damien [Delaney], Shane [Duggan], Bastien [Hery] and a few others so it’ll be important for the younger lads to have that around the squad. I think Damien will be a massive signing for the club, too; his experience will be important.

“It’s all about fitness for now, but it has to be done and I can’t wait to get back into competitive action again.

Speaking to WaterfordFC.ie after confirming the re-signing of Browne, manager Alan Reynolds said:

“Kenny is a fans’ favourite here so it’s great that he’s signed for the new season. He showed his quality again last season and he’ll be an important player.

“He has lots of experience in league football but also in European football so we’ll look to use that to help some of the younger lads this season. He’s played with Cork, St Pats and Sporting Fingal so he knows what we need to do.

“Training has gone well and he’s working very hard at the moment so it’s great to have him in the squad again this season.”
