Cork City FC are delighted to confirm that Shane Griffin has signed a new contract with the club.
The full back was virtually ever-present for City last season, and he told CorkCityFC.ie: “I am delighted to get it done. There is a great group of players here and good management staff, so it is a great club to be at and I can’t wait for the season to start. I have had a taste of success, but also the disappointment of the season just gone, so I think we will use that as motivation for next year and try to win trophies.”
“We are back in since Tuesday and it is great to see some fresh faces. There are some great players coming in, which adds more competition for places. As a group last season, we were disappointed, so we are hungry to put things right and start the season well.”
City boss John Caulfield welcomed the news, saying: “Griff has been a big part of the team over the last two years, so we are delighted to have him on board again. There was huge interest in him, both from England and here as well, but he had told me a few weeks back that he was going to re-sign, so it was just a case of getting it done and dusted.”
“From the point of view of the back four or five, you have continuity in that a lot of the lads who were here last season are staying on, but also a few new players coming in as well. We want to have a very high energy team next season, and we all know the role that Griff has played up and down the left-hand side.”
“A lot of them are young players, but they all have at least one full season under their belts. They are hungry, they have great attitudes, lots of energy and ability, so we are very excited. We know what Griff can do and we know he will be an important player in us having a strong defence, which is what we need.”
