The Candystripes will be aiming to protect a fairly unique record when Bohemians arrive at Brandywell tonight (Friday) with Kenny Shiels having won all 10 of his previous scraps against the north Dublin outfit.
It isn’t something that the Derry boss reads too much into to be fair; Shiels referring to that as “just a statistic” when he spoke to the media after Thursday’s training session.
“Bohs have won 5 of their last 6 games with their only defeat in that time against Dundalk so they’re probably the league’s form team at the minute” he said.
“The fact that we have won those 10 games is circumstantial. They have a good squad, and a big squad and they will be a very difficult proposition.”
Shiels refused to concede that European qualification was beyond his team via the league but admitted that it was now a massive ask.
“We can’t think like that until it becomes mathematically impossible. We want our momentum to be good especially with those important cup dates coming up so we will literally prepare for each match as it comes.”
