Michael O’Connor signs for Linfield

Former Dundalk, Shamrock Rovers and Finn Harps striker Michael O’Connor has signed for Danske Premiership side Linfield.

Linfield manager David Healy said: “He’s an exciting prospect who already has considerable pedigree having played for Shamrock Rovers, Finn Harps on loan and his home town club Dundalk where he has won winners medals and featured in the Champions League.

“Everyone who saw him in action last night was impressed and I’ve received lots of messages urging me to sign Michael which I’m now delighted to be able to confirm.

“He’s really keen to get started and I’m looking forward to working with him in training.

“He’s a confident lad who will add to our firepower upfront and I just know our supporters will welcome him to the club.

“Michael has undergone his medical and it’s nice to be able to introduce him properly to everyone at the club rather than as a trialist which is the standard procedure for most clubs.

“He’s made a successful start to his Windsor Park career and hopefully he can continue where he left off last night. I know Michael had quite a few offers to consider and I’m delighted he’s chosen to continue his promising career with us.”

  1. Could be an interesting move for a lad who hasn’t delivered as much as he seemed to promise. He could do well there if he gets a lot of game time, hope he scores lots of goals.

  2. Probably on par with premier division strikers like Josh O’Hanlon, Dean Clarke, Danny Morrissey and many others who have contracts with premier division sides. Hopefully he gets a good run and earns a move as primary no.9 to LOI premier division club

  3. I suppose so Al, but to be fair, he never got a decent run. He was probably never going to make it with Rovers, but at the same time , he didn’t exactly set the world on fire at Harps. He needs a club that will persevere with him and bring him along…maybe Healy is that guy who can get the best out of him. Hope it works out great for them all.
