Kenny Shiels believes his team has to be tougher when they tackle Waterford at the Regional Sports Centre as third meets fourth on Friday night.
The Candy Stripes are coming off the back of a morale-boosting win against Bray on Monday night while the home side have lost to both Limerick and Dundalk in the space of a week.
Shiels though has warned his players of the threat posed by Alan Reynolds’ team and has told them they need to be strong.
“Waterford have had a fantastic season so far and are one of the sides right up there in contention. They have a very physical style of play so we need to be able to stand up to that and need a strong referee too.”
“It’s going to be very difficult to go there and win but that’s the target we set ourselves ahead of every match. We need to make sure we do what we can to stay competitive in that fight for a top four place.”
Shiels says that he has a concern over the fitness of Gavin Peers but that he hopes that Nickly Low and Darren Cole will be added to the squad that beat Bray.
