Dundalk went top of the league tonight with a 2-1 hard fought victory over Shamrock Rovers at Oriel Park.
In an intense affair Dundalk got the better of Stephen Bradley’s side with goals from Robbie Benson & Chris Shields.
The 3,056 fans inside Oriel Park were kept on the edge of their seats as Dundalk hit both the bar and post and could have easily been two up before the break.
After the break Robbie Benson put the hosts ahead and Chris Shields then put the lilywhites two up.
The ever present and torn in Dundalk’s side Daniel Carr pulled one back for Rovers who threatened until the end but couldn’t find the equaliser.

1,636 days or 4 years, 5 months and 24 days since his last league goal for Dundalk Chris Shields is on the scoresheet. Since that game v Sligo, Dundalk have played 149 league games with @Big_Shields6 involved in 123 of them. Amazingly I backed him tonight.
