Patrick McEleney signs for Oldham Athletic in League One

Patrick McEleney has signed for Oldham Athletic in England’s League One.

The Latics have signed the Derry native on a two and a half year deal.

McEleney won the League of Ireland title along with an EA Sports Cup since joining Dundalk in 2016.

There was no fee as the player was out of contract and the transfer will go through on January 1st.

Speaking to the Oldham website McEleney said; “It was an easy decision after I met the manager and I had been around the place.

“The style of play is going to suit me and I’m looking forward to getting started now.

““My first target is to get into the team and then after that I’ll take it from there.

“Getting into the team is the main thing because I can’t just expect to roll up and jump straight in, I need to get myself fit and get myself sharp but I back myself to do well.”

  1. Not a great move really. Floating about relegation places of third tier football. A real shame our clubs lose most of their players for no fees in off season. Surely with the big UEFA money 2/3 year deals could become the norm and transfer fees become a real income source for clubs
