Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers must meet again in a replay after the sides drew one goal a piece at Oriel Park today in their FAI Cup semi final clash.
Dundalk went ahead through a Robbie Benson goal that was worked well up the pitch by captain Stephen O’Donnell and played across the box for the Athlone man to fire in and put the home side in front.
It has the feeling and atmosphere of a Cup semi final with hard tackles going in from both sides and off the ball niggles.
Rovers did equalise in the second half deservedly through Brandon Miele.
The intensity never stopped and the inevitable red card of the game came when Dave McAllister made a wild tackle on Chris Shields and received his marching orders from Neil Doyle for a second billable offense.
The replay is fixed for October 10th at Tallaght Stadium.
