Gary Rogers (7)
Was confident in his area and made two big saves to keep Rosenborg back in the first half. Could do nothing for the goal. Overall display was impressive.
Sean Gannon (9) – Man of the Match
Never let Midtsjo / Lanlay pass him once on the wing, was in complete control at the back. Solid defending the whole night. Communicated very well with Mountney on the right wing, and got up in support on the wing creating chances for the team also. A fantastic performance.
Brian Gartland (7)
Started well but was majorly at fault for the equaliser with some poor defending. Had a much better second half with some important challenges and really drove his team on with his leadership qualities.
Niclas Vemmelund (6)
One of the more nervous starters to the game for Dundalk, with a few misplaced tackles and bad positioning from the Dane but gradually grew in confidence as the game went on. Taken off injured at 60′.
Dane Massey (8)
One of the contenders for man of the match in our opinion. Technically very good on the ball in all instances and brought flair to the left back / wing position along with brilliant defending. Fitness was in a different league to the Rosenborg right winger Jevtovic.
Chris Shields (6)
Good game by the Dubliner, although a few times his decision making was not the best with misplaced passes or tackles. Grafted all night doing the dirty stuff well in breaking up play and putting pressure on Rosenborg’s midfield. Good performance.
John Mountney (8)
An un-sung hero tonight we believe, defended impeccably at times with Gannon on the right and was always looking for the break to take on his man on the channels producing many great crosses and chances at goal. Great game from the Mayo native.
Robbie Benson (5)
Not the greatest night for the Athlone man. Had a big chance early on that was nearly deflected but never found his stride in the game. Did the simple things well and no real mistakes but no major impact tonight.
Michael Duffy (6)
Started very brightly, full of enthusiasm and his pace was a threat against the Norwegians, but his threat diminished as the game went on. Average deliveries from dead ball situations. Taken off for Dylan Connolly in the 70′.
Patrick McEleney (7)
Showed his class on many an occasion with his skills and trickery. Always finding space in the free role tonight and it benefited the team with some pin point passing and crosses. Good all round performance with more in the locker to come from the Derry man.
David McMillan (8)
He is the man every manager wants in his team up top on his own. He chased & fought for every ball he could. Hardest working man on the pitch and had impact with his movements. The goal was his eight European goal of his career. A ht tip from us for McMillan.
