2017 League of Ireland Premier Division predictions

With the 2017 season nearly upon us, we at wanted to give our season predictions for the Premier& First Divisions this season.

This article will feature the Premier Division predictions and as you can see below we feel that the title will head to Leeside this season.

The re-signing of Sean Maguire and great additions to the squad such as Shane Griffin, Achille Campion & Conor McCormack we think will be the difference this season.

Most would possibly assume that after 2016 Dundalk will be certainties to retain their title, but we believe the losses of key men like Boyle, Horgan, Finn & Meenan matched with injuries will essentially leave Kenny’s men just shy this season.

The big movers this season we feel will be Shamrock Rovers and expect Stephen Bradley’s team to run Cork City closest to the title.

The signings of the Tallaght club have in our opinion been the best in the league so far (Connolly, Finn, Meenan & Corry to name a few) and they have brought in experience and natural leaders which will help them challenge.

We feel the mid table teams will be similar to last season with Limerick guaranteeing safety with a mid-table finish.

A fight to the end but a positive outcome of safety is what we believe Shane Keegan’s first season at Galway United will entail.

With the relegation places we will keep it short and simple.

In our opinion we think the three teams that don’t have strong enough teams to beat the drop are Bohemians, Drogheda United & Finn Harps.

Here is our prediction for the 2017 Premier Division table.

Cork City (C)
Shamrock Rovers
Derry City
Sligo Rovers
Bray Wanderers

Galway United
Bohemians (R)
Drogheda United (R)
Finn Harps (R)

  1. Possibly Bohs last year at Dalyer, budgets cut again and three go down. Can see why we are one of your three for relegation. But can’t see it happening. We are Bohs we will survive.
