St Patrick’s Athletic have named their captain Ger O’Brien as the club’s new Director of Football for their underage teams.
As well as playing, the Dubliner will also take up a first team coaching role in Liam Buckley’s backroom team as he has his Uefa A License completed.
O’Brien had this to say about the role to the official St Pat’s website, “Firstly I want to thank St Francis FC for giving me the opportunity to work with them as a club. In that time we have managed to move the club forward and laid some great foundations for the years to come.
“I move on to the role now with St Pat’s and it’s one that I am very much looking forward to. The League of Ireland underage pathway is finally coming to fruition and will help continue the brilliant development work already being done by schoolboy clubs up and down the country.
I’m also looking forward to being a part Liam’s coaching staff. A lot of hard work and time goes in to attaining your badges and I’m thankful Liam has given me an opportunity to work on the pitch with top quality players on a daily basis. I’m not retiring just yet before it’s asked, but a new chapter in my career is beginning and I look forward to it being at St Pat’s.”
