Alan Mathews appointed Longford Town manager for 2017 season

Alan Mathews has been appointed the manager of Longford Town for the 2017 season in the First Division.

Mathews was appointed manager for the end of the 2016 season after Tony Cousins resigned, when Longford were effectively already relegated so it seems he has been brought in for a full re-build for the future.

Speaking to the official Longford Town website Mathews said; “I am delighted to have agreed a contract extension with the club, it’s a great honour to continue managing here and I am very happy to be taking on the challenge of getting Longford Town back to where they belong, playing in the Premier Division. The season just gone has been very disappointing and I want to put together a squad that will have us competing at the top of the First Division next season.”
