Former Waterford United man signs for Newcastle

Former Waterford United man and current Ireland international Daryl Murphy has left Ipswich to sign for Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle United.

Murphy who has 23 caps for Ireland played for his hometown club Waterford United between 2002 – 2005 scoring 30 goals in 99 appearances.

In 2004 he was named the PFAI Young Player of the year and with all that interest Sunderland swooped in and signed him.

Murphy has been with Ipswich Since 2011 scoring 67 times in the process but the move to Newcastle was obviously one that he could not turn down.
