In a game that was fought till the very end, Dundalk and FH Hafnarfjordur will meet next week in Iceland after the sides drew one all in Oriel Park.
The first notable chance of the game came on ten minutes for Dundalk when a cross in the box was headed just over by McMillan.
Dundalk seemed nervous throughout the game with players like Sean Gannon seeming to be hit by the pressure more than others with many misplaced passes and bad positioning which is unlike the right back.
The game went into HT scoreless with the teams not in full flow and still getting the cobwebs out of the system.
The breakthrough came on 66′ for Dundalk when Paddy McEleney put in a well timed cross for goal machine David McMillan to finish off and put the hosts one up.
Unfortunately former Dundalk man Steven Lennon grabbed the equaliser in the 76th minute which silenced the Oriel Park crowd.
The game finished one a piece and leaves Stephen Kenny’s men with a task of needing to score in Iceland to progress.
