Not many people reference Sunderland manager Sam Allardyce with the League of Ireland but we are here to enlighten you and let you know of the connection.

From 1991-1992 ‘Big Sam’ got his first managerial role in charge of Limerick FC as a player manager.

There are many stories going around about Allardyce knocking on doors in Limerick collecting money for the club regularly.

To his credit he led Limerick to the First Division title in his only season at the club before he moved on to coach at Preston.

Sam Allardyce is the now hot favourite for the England managers job and I am sure all Limerick FC fans will be keeping an eye on the situation.
